Ashton Mears is a sixth-generation Floridian, born and raised in Ocala, with a lifelong connection to Florida’s land, people, and values. She founded Mears Law, P.A. in January 2025 to provide clear, compassionate legal guidance in estate planning, agricultural and environmental matters, and state and local government affairs—especially for Florida’s families, agricultural communities, and landowners.

Before entering private practice, Ashton built a diverse legal and policy background focused on protecting Floridians’ ability to grow, farm, and steward the land. She began her legal career as an attorney for the Florida House of Representatives, serving the Agriculture and Natural Resources Subcommittee, where she worked on legislation involving agriculture and environmental policy. She then joined Deseret Ranches of Florida, one of the state’s largest agricultural operations, where she negotiated and managed third-party contracts and worked on water permitting compliance across three of Florida’s water management districts.

Ashton later served as Director of Government Affairs and Staff Counsel at the Florida Home Builders Association, where she gained extensive experience navigating Florida’s legislative and regulatory landscape. These combined roles give her a unique perspective on the needs of families, business owners, and rural communities across the state.

Prior to practicing law, Ashton taught high school agriculture for five years in Marion County Public Schools—an experience that further deepened her understanding of Florida’s agricultural roots and the value of service to local communities.

Ashton earned her Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law, where she received the Book Award in Professional Responsibility, was a member of the Moot Court Honor Board, and was recognized for her outstanding pro bono service. She also holds dual bachelor’s degrees in History and Political Science from the University of North Florida.

Outside of her legal work, Ashton enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She lives in Ocala with her husband, Paul, and their dog, Knox.
